For such a monumental
offering of features, the fabled Parallel/Serial interfacing
from an Atari 800 expansion card vs the SIO bus. The
Easy I/O gets almost no mention or notice within Atari
circles. A brief mention in an Atari Magazine was
about the only public acknowledgement of this incredible
device. Sadly the
reason is, that only just a few were ever made and none have
ever surfaced since the company closed in 1986.
Designed by an Atari engineer
on the side, named Dave Sheppard, these boards would've
changed the entire way the Atari 800's could've been used by
having so much flexibility from a Bus card device vs an SIO
driven device.
Other versions such as a
Parallel only board and an External Modem were mentioned,
but again, they sadly never materialized.
