The Austin Franklin 80
column video board for the Atari 800 was installed into Slot
#3 just like the BIT-3 Fullview 80 board. The
AF80 board produced color RGBi output and when not active,
it would pass thru the standard composite video signal from
the Atari 800 video output jack which would be channeled
through the AF80 board, just the same way as the BIT-3
Fullview 80 board does.
The board has a cable with
outputs for both an RCA video signal and a DB9 male RGBi
signal.
The board used a CRT9007
video processor board and its own character ROM set.
The board has more features
to it including character attributes such as blinking and
inversed video as well as color selection, independent to
each character. These features made it slightly more
sophisticated than the BIT-3 video board. However, the
AF80 was not as widely sold at the BIT-3 and it far more
difficult to locate.
To accomodate the loss of one
of the Expansion slots for the AF80 board, Austin Franklin
also sold a 32K RAM memory board for slot #2 to allow the
user to install the AF80 and still have up to 48k of memory
in the system.
