Very little is known about
the Atari 827 prototype printer. From the design sheet
above, we can tell it was being done in 1981. It was
to be an 80 column printer and not much else is known.
When the Atari 825 was
released, it was done so in haste so that Atari would have
an 80 column printer as part of its offering of printer
peripherals. The printer is a repackaged Centronics
737 printer.
So it can be assumed that
most likely the 827 was to be the replacement for the 825
and that most likely it was going to be an SIO bus device
and not a Centronics parallel port device.
Unfortunately, this is all just speculation and so far no
Atari employee's that have been contacted have specific
knowledge of the specifications of the 827.
If any former Atari
employee's with knowledge of the 827 could contact the Atari
Museum, please
