The Convologic Bytewriter
was an EPROM reader/programmer for the Atari 800 home
computer system. It could be used on either the 1 & 2
or the 3 & 4 controller ports so it was also compatible with
the Atari XL and XE computer systems.
The software was very easy to
use and allowed Atari users the ability to directly burn
ROM's right from their Atari's. This was a major
luxury and a powerful tool to have in the 1980's. Most
other Eprom programmers and readers were very expensive and
often, difficult to use keypad/LED display systems or
systems that connected to expensive IBM PC's or even
minicomputers.
Convologic was also unique in
its location. Most 3rd party companies making Atari
hardware devices tended to be in California, Texas and
Michigan for the most part. Other exceptions were
Austin Franklin Associates in Massachusetts and the Alien
Group in New York.
